Many organisations and individuals are involved in the conservation and management of coastal dunes across Europe. The European Dune Network is an initiative to help raise awareness of the threats to coastal dunes and to encourage networking, exchanges of experience and cooperation within and between sectors.
The network platform is supported by the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) Council in association with the UK Sand Dune and Shingle Network http://www.eucc.net/en/european_dune_network/index.htm. The European network is a loose association of national contact points, each of which share our aims of networking and cooperation.
The network is focused on coastal habitats and in particular the conservation of the EU habitats and species which underpin the Natura 2000 network. Many EU LIFE projects have addressed these concerns and the European Dune Network supports networking and dissemination activity.
Since 2010 the Sand Dune and Shingle Network has helped to promote the idea of a European Dune Network by publishing a regular European newsletter. Copies can be downloaded from this link.
